Chariots Rise

Chariots Rise rose to popularity through the cult classic, Secretary. If you’ve scene the movie, you’d recognize the song towards the end in the climactic scene where James Spader is carrying Maggie Gyllenhaal up the stairs. If you haven’t scene it, we’ll stop there.

When Chariots Rise was written, Lizzie had written the original lyric of the chorus to be, “what a fool am I, to fall so in love.” When she was approached to have the song in the movie, the producers said they liked the song but didn’t like the lyric, “fool” because they didn’t want Maggie Gyllenhaal’s character to seem like a fool. Lizzie then came back with the lyric, “grace” which ended up being the lyric used in the movie. At the time, Lizzie didn’t want to release the “what grace have I” lyric on the album because she had not found her true love and honestly felt the “what a fool am I” lyric more.

Lizzie met her true love Baba in 2005 and since meeting, the duo has lived off and on the road, moving 6 times in the past 6 years. Needles to say, their lives have been scattered and though she has received many requests for the movie version of the song, she didn’t know where to begin looking for it. They re-recorded a new version with the “grace” lyric and it has over 50,000 hits on youtube and growing, but still, it wasn’t the exact movie version.

Thanks to persistent fans writing about the lyric change and pleading for the “grace” version, a stroke of luck and meeting her true love, she finally felt “what grace have I, to fall so in love. Low and behold, with an act of grace and a message in a dream, the “grace” version was finally found! As of now, it still needs work before it can be released but it is the movie version that so many people have requested.

Here’s how you can pre-order the “what grace have I” version of Chariots Rise from the movie, which HAS NEVER BEEN RELEASED UNTIL NOW. Check out their new project, Thank You For Giving Us… and pledge $1 before July 21st and if you’re inspired to, please pledge more.
